Conceptual issues

Some issues are with general Drupal concepts rather than specific tasks. Stuff 'em here.

Maintained personal websites, worked a lot with Wordpress. Tried Drupal a bit on GoDaddy, but never really used it.

Embeded video:
Observation log:

[1:07pm] Used forums, tried Drupal on godaddy, wordpress.
[1:08pm] Choosing default profile.
[1:10pm] "I do like that it's actually tells me what it's doing as it's installing it, it gives me hope that it will finish"
[1:11pm] password checker "uh.. huh"
[1:11pm] But used it to confirm password matched.
[1:11pm] "The clean URL option, I like that"
[1:14pm] First step would be themes
[1:16pm] Using welcome text to navigate.
[1:17pm] Wondering if she should enable a 'schedule' module before posting content.
[1:17pm] "I hope I can go back to the page I was at before"
[1:17pm] ^^ talking about welcome text"

TASK 2.

[1:23pm] node/add/article
[1:24pm] Knows what the revision log is for.
[1:24pm] Spending time looking at the options.
[1:24pm] Yet not clicking on any of the tabs
[1:25pm] New people do seem kind of intimidated by vt.. users seems more apt to clicking on fieldsets vs vt
[1:26pm] • catch thinks that's a plus.
[1:26pm] unless we start putting vt all over the place
[1:26pm] • catch still a plus.
[1:27pm] Viewing the article - "it looks like I'm on a preview page"
[1:27pm] "because there is an edit button"
[1:27pm] "i dont think other users would see that"
[1:28pm] Clicking the "View" tab to see if it's going to show the page how normal users will see it.
[1:28pm] "I'm assuming this is the back-end, maybe I'm wrong"
[1:30pm] On blogger - when I'm logged in I see what admins see, and when I'm logged out I see what other users see"

TASK 3: Straight to node/1/edit

[1:32pm] Likes the "weight" field.
[1:32pm] Completely understands it.
[1:32pm] Awesome.
[1:33pm] Chose 'main menu' (the only parent option) - not shown up in the Navigation menu.
[1:33pm] Going to preview to see if that works.
[1:33pm] No I'm understanding that's the 'my account menu' - and I can see my link at the top of the page.
[1:34pm] "It makes sense to keep it separate from the 'My account' tasks.
[1:35pm] administer - straight to site building.
[1:35pm] "There is a menu option, that's probably where I would go first"
[1:35pm] "Now what I'm wondering is if the navigation menu is on the left hand side"
[1:37pm] "I've already forgotten my link, that's not so helpful" - but copying from the main menu.
[1:38pm] TASK TWO COMPLETE
[1:38pm] "That's very simple"
[1:40pm] "I was kind of expecting it to give me a location, I didn't find 'Where do you want your block?'"
[1:40pm] I know that the block has been created.
[1:40pm] (reading the dsm())
[1:41pm] ISSUE: disabled blocks are hard to find
[1:41pm] Block wins again.
[1:41pm] Wants to enable the block.
[1:41pm] even though she moved it to the right side bar
[1:41pm] ISSUE: users do not connect moving a sidebar to a region as enabling the region
[1:42pm] enabling the block*
[1:42pm] "I've managed to lose it again"
[1:42pm] Moves it to the region again and finds the save button.
[1:42pm] Task complete

TASK 6 - categorising workshops.

[1:43pm] "My first assumption is user management"
[1:44pm] "because you used the word allow - so automatically I think I should give certain users permissions"
[1:45pm] clarified the allow isn't important and the categorisation is.
[1:45pm] Straight to content management -> Taxonomy.
[1:45pm] "I'm going to read this real quick" (very long help text)
[1:45pm] < sighs >
[1:46pm] "It defines it really well, letting you know what the terms mean"
[1:46pm] "I don't normally see edit vocabulary when I'm working with blogs or forums"
[1:46pm] "Let's just see what it looks like"
[1:46pm] "Hmm, tags, so this is what we already have" - > recognises it from node/add/article
[1:47pm] So I'm going to add vocabulary.
[1:47pm] Reading the help text.
[1:48pm] Looking at the options before entering any information.
[1:48pm] Looking at required options, "obviously multiple select won't work for beginner and intermediate"
[1:48pm] But after all that, typing 'beginner'.
[1:49pm] "I want a term in this vocabulary"
[1:50pm] Using the wording of the required field to figure out how to add more than one term to the vocabulary.
[1:50pm] "I'm trying to figure out how to do that .... and I'm not really sure...."
[1:50pm] Found the taxonomy help text.
[1:50pm] It's very, very, long.
[1:51pm] "I don't normally read the help text"
[1:52pm] "normally I would have sat down and played with it for 3-4 hours before I actually tried to do anything"
[1:52pm] Got back to vocabulary - this time entering "difficulty level"
[1:53pm] created vocabulary, adding terms.
[1:54pm] Going to edit original article posted to make sure it shows up.
[1:54pm] "ah ha! Difficulty level, please choose!"
[1:54pm] "It just took me a minute to figure out if that main vocabulary, how that worked as far as the parent child"
[1:55pm] I've unfortunately worked in system where you had to create all of the children and then create the parent, which was a real pain"

TASK 7

[1:56pm] Not sure which theme is default.
[1:56pm] "they're all blue"
[1:56pm] (was asked to change the colour)
[1:56pm] straight to configure.
[1:57pm] "I like the way it just lists all the page elements and you can pick and choose them"
[1:57pm] "when I change the colour nothing actually happens anywhere" - BIG FLAMING BUG.
[1:58pm] "I'm thinking this is really simple"
[1:58pm] "Really pretty intuitive"
[1:59pm] "Some of the vocabulary is different, but where the vocabulary is different there's a good explanation, there's a lot that you can do with this"
[2:00pm] "I've just built a site and I wish I hadn't spent two hours using a different system"
[2:01pm] "I spent about three weeks building the new site, and with this it would've been done a lot faster"

Users are asked to create a link in the left sidebar. This is either accomplished by adding a menu item to the Navigation menu, creating a new menu and adding an item to that, or creating a block and hand-coding the .

Post some example content

Users are asked to post a few nodes with general information. During this task, they must decide which type of node to create (article or page) and actually get the information up on the website.
