Participant 3

Participant number:
3

Worked strongly on Mambo back in the day and contributed several plug-ins, but switched now to primarily working with Ruby on Rails. Has some experience working with Wordpress and Joomla.

Good quotes:
There's kinda just a lot of stuff here, it's got that kind of open source programmer designed look to it
Now I see taxonomy. That's kinda big word. That's a big word for this kinda stuff. Seems kinda funny, cause I think of biology and stuffed deer
Vocabulary and taxonomy, it is ridiculous. It is too much abstraction
This massively abstracted system could categorize anything
The dragging thing was cool
It (batch progress bar) is sorta blingy
This (taxonomy) might be exactly what I want. This might be more than I want.
(when asked to stay relatively still so eye tracking would work) 'So not like grandma playing mario kart'

TASK 1

completed without issue

TASK 2

[3:34pm] doesn't know what he is looking at - main part of site or admin?
[3:34pm] doest know if what he is looking at (welcome to drupal screen) is admin or the real site
[3:34pm] Is this the main site I'd see if I wasn't logged in as admin.
[3:34pm] expecting an admin control pannel
[3:34pm] "I'm thinking it's the main site I'd see if I was anyone out on the web, even though I'm logged in as admin. Guessing it's the default screen right after installation"
[3:34pm] is reminded of "Welcome to apache" screens
[3:34pm] "Reminds me of the apache server, when yo install that"
[3:35pm] paraphrase: the theme looks admin-like
[3:35pm] Worked it out.
[3:36pm] "What am I going to use to hold the news, what am I going to use to hold the schedule"
[3:36pm] "Will I need a calendar plugin straight off the bat"
[3:36pm] actually read the welcome text
[3:36pm] Logging out to see how it looks.
[3:37pm] "I expected a huge tool bar at the top"
[3:37pm] "I expected a huge toolbar at the top"
[3:37pm] expecting a huge admin tool bar over top in admin section
[3:37pm] initial thoughts: "kinda just a lot of stuff here"
[3:37pm] (looking at /admin) "theres a lot of stuff here"
[3:37pm] "There's kinda just a lot of stuff here, it's got that kind of open source programmer designed look to it"
[3:37pm] "its basically just boxes and lists"
[3:38pm] "boxes with titles and lists, but a good version of that. Looks pretty, but a lot of different things here"
[3:38pm] "when you're used to it, probably really convenient because everything is just here"
[3:38pm] "a open source programmer look - a good version of that .. a lot to look at it first .. but will be convinent when kind of used to it "
[3:38pm] isn't sure wht the difference between content management and site building is
[3:38pm] "Not sure what the difference is between content management and site building"
[3:38pm] site building - managing a template, but more than that.
[3:39pm] admin/content/node
[3:39pm] went directly to "content" under admin, to enter content
[3:39pm] realized quickly it was a listing screen
[3:39pm] "I don't immediately see the button to add"
[3:39pm] No button to add content from admin/content/node
[3:40pm] ISSUE: ^
[3:40pm] becca: "what would that button say to you?"
[3:40pm] "Create content"
[3:40pm] Looking under the admin menu.. does not see create content in the root menu
[3:41pm] "Create content, huh, wonder why I didn't see that before"
[3:41pm] "create content is not under the administration of content"
[3:41pm] "Create content is not under the administration of content here"
[3:42pm] he though everything should be under administer
[3:42pm] "i thought everything would be underneath administer"
[3:43pm] "article is a small piece of content then page "
[3:43pm] "A page might show a bunch of articles under one topic"
[3:43pm] "Or even have a bunch of other functionality like a calendar"
[3:43pm] page is what holds content
[3:44pm] note: no ability to add content type from node/add
[3:45pm] thinks stuff in vertical tabs probably "isn't relevant to me right now, I'm just trying to get this stuff up"
[3:47pm] realizes when viewing the page he just created that he's seeing what the end user would see, even though he has admin capabilities
[3:48pm] logged out after adding content, so he could "see exactly what the end user sees"

TASK 3

[3:49pm] keeps referencing "box".. aka block
[3:50pm] Looking at "Add main menu link"
[3:50pm] "My first thought here is that it's not what I'm looking for.
[3:51pm] Understands Primary Links, but doesn't want to use it.
[3:54pm] "navigation is not visible to anonymous users, so that's not what I want"
[3:54pm] "What does enabled mean for 'Add a main menu link'"
[3:54pm] ISSUE: "Add a main menu link" is a real menu item
[3:56pm] "Not sure why it's giving me all this admin only stuff, don't know why I'd want to do that"
[3:56pm] ^^ parent item for adding a menu item.
[3:58pm] after adding a link to navigation (moving from main menu) "oh wow, now I see a bunch of stuff I didn't see before, not sure why it threw me in here"
[3:59pm] confused about mixing of items only visible to an admin, and content visible to anonymous users
[3:59pm] "its weird to me that its mixing things that are only viewable to the admin with things that are viewable to the end user" (referring to the navigation menu and the new link he created)
[4:00pm] ISSUE: Path and menu link title are in the wrong order.

TASK 4

[4:04pm] "going to administer where I should be able to do anything"
[4:04pm] scrolls to bottom of blocks screen
[4:05pm] then back up to the top to add
[4:05pm] expected to see "Add block link" under empty content region
[4:05pm] expected to see add block link within the region with no bocks
[4:06pm] maybe add region selection list to add block page
[4:06pm] wants instant feedback as to what something is going to look like.
[4:07pm] expected disabled blocks to be separated from the enabled blocks
[4:08pm] used ajax block dragged block to right position
[4:08pm] dragging was cool
[4:08pm] "the dragging things was cool
[4:09pm] expected the drag and drop
[4:09pm] "dragging Vs. select list" thinking like some ajax stuff going sround here
[4:09pm] doesn't seem to get that dragging is also for weights

TASK 5

[4:14pm] got caught up on split summary on cursor
[4:14pm] thinks split summary at cursor interesting .. play with it later
[4:14pm] predicted what it would do accurately though
[4:16pm] "The first thing I'm thinking is tags are not what I want, I want a rigid structure which I can define manually"

TASK 6

[4:17pm] would call it "categories"
[4:17pm] or "sections"
[4:17pm] "sections or categories"
[4:17pm] thinking "content management"
[4:17pm] taxonomy is kinda a big word
[4:17pm] taxonomy is "a big word".. I think "biology"
[4:19pm] surprised by the fact that the tags vocab is already there
[4:19pm] ISSUE: add "create vocabularly" as bottom row of taxonomy table by default?
[4:19pm] ISSUE: add X at the bottom of every list of X?
[4:19pm] taxonomy is complicated
[4:20pm] "taxonomy to me means not only categorizing stuff, but creating a hierarchy"
[4:21pm] taxonomy admin page could be better than thi
[4:21pm] like : create category, create tags, add terms all on same landing page
[4:21pm] "It seems like taxonomy could be something very cool though"
[4:22pm] "This may not be what I want, this may be more than I want"
[4:22pm] ISSUE: taxonomy help is extremely long and confusing... no other form has that much help text
[4:22pm] "it all seems very abstracted at this point. too many levels of abstraction just to get started"
[4:23pm] taxonomy + vocabularly is "general", "vague"
[4:23pm] "Too much abstraction"
[4:24pm] Understood what a vocabulary is. But not keen on having to work through it just to get the three categories.
[4:25pm] ISSUE: you can select a content type on the vocab add page.. but if you leave none checked, it will not be available in any content type, where as on other forms such as this, selecting none will enable for all
[4:26pm] "I didn't want to create tags"
[4:27pm] Likes going back to add another term from the form.
[4:28pm] But it's different from creating content - took me to viewing it.
[4:28pm] Different, a bit surprising, but exactly what I wanted to do.
[4:32pm] Expects title to be a block in the header region.
[4:33pm] Themes next "probably the wrong thing"
[4:34pm] ISSUE: no edit link for title.
[4:35pm] "mission.. it's amusing that that's an option"
[4:35pm] ISSUE: site name should not be required?
[4:41pm] (cancel that, theme setting)
[4:42pm] Wants adminmen
[4:43pm] admin
menu
[4:43pm] can hover on menu items .. rather than clicking
[4:43pm] admin_menu^
