Participant 1
This participant is familiar with Drupal, used views, cck, panels etc. Also did some extensive development on other platforms as Django and Plone.
TASK 1
he knows a lot more than what I was expecting ...
immediately though "mysql" was overkill
went for sqlite
going through every step on the install screen.
Looks like he's used to Drupal 5 - expecting to find things in certain places.
thinks pages are for 'static pages' like about, contact us, etc.. would use article for things where he would have a repeated stream of content..
Had too look for content types, clicked on 'content', then found 'create content'
workshops would be 'articles', most other things pages in this context.
Copying HTML source from the information tab into the page body.
Chose full HTML to get all the tags.
posted page, now looking for a way to make it get posted on the home page
Used site information to get this on the front page.
looking through site admin, set node id to "front page"
not looking for help at all
Scanning vertical tabs but not changed any settings in them.
Interesting that he has not clicked on a vertical tab yet
help link must appear at top near title field
Looking for recent content block.
when asked to allow other content to be on the home page, immediately went for blocks. now he's thinking that might be the wrong way.
Expecting things from views to be there, but not finding them. Then moving onto menus.
usually he uses blocks with views, without that he doesn't see a way to make a block which is a list of articles
Looking for a way to convert a node to a block...
promoted the article to front page from admin/content/types
or convert a node type
really wants to use blocks for this, keeps going back to the idea
went to content management to find blocks
Looked down the list of blocks before finding add block.
created block, set visibility settings to front, but didn't assign it to aregion
Moved the task 1 content to a block, used block visibility to stick it on front page.
Thought "Header" region was the header of the page and not the header of the node
Header region in Garland is wtf.
Expected content region to be above the content listing.
taking jacket off, probably sweating :)
Knows what 'sticky at top of list' is but hasn't found the setting anywhere. Expecting blocks to do the same thing.
understands the concept of a content type
TASK 2
expects to do task 2 with menus
2 ideas, one to use the menu system, the other to hard code the link in a block
knows he can do it both with blocks and menus, considers menus to be the probable right way
Looking for Zen hover links on the admin menu.
is used to the hover links on blocks provided by views or zen
edit/configure
notices many places have hover config/edit block. can't figure out when/where they show up
straight to admin/build/menu
creating a new menu
used underscores for menu name, got a validation error.
admin/content/node
going back to page, looking for menu options
menu settings - straight to it.
Menu isn't showing up.
wants menu to show up, going back to blocks screen
does not use block drag and drop.. uses region select list
Using drop downs for regions.
keeps sayign "I wanna tell my content"
But using drag and drop for weights.
loves the drag and drop feature, but doesn't use it :)
TASK 3
^after creating a new content (for log h created a page and a menu)
feels like task 3 is a fairly typical task he would complete. would like to know a little more about the model of the site. Registration needs, who will be creating accounts, are proposals submitted via site, etc.
wants to distinguish workshops from other content .. creates content type
found content types right away when looking to create workshop type.
went to display settings briefly, then immediately found workflow settings to disable promoted and published by default.
Went back to edit to check if any new options would show up.
after creating.
TASK 5
does not seem to be bothered by the fact that a block he created is on every page
isn't sure whether permissions is in site building or users. found it fairly quickly under users.
finds permissions confusing
Clicked permissions from the role name - which only shows for the single role.
finds single role permissions "confusing" but liked the multi user permission page
Wanted to compare authenticated and workshop presenter permissions.
Adding authenticated user permissions to the workshop role one by one.
does not inherently understand the fact that a user with the newly created role will automatically have all permissions an authenticated user will
doubled up on access comments.
TASK 6
wants "categories"
task 6 sounds like a category to him.
looking to create 'category stuff'
Eyes are hovering over taxonomy
"I have tags for articles, that's not what I want"
Immediately went to 'add vocabulary'.
"categories" is a common word.. has yet to say "taxonomy"
ISSUE: Entered tags in an order, displayed alphabetically on node/add
Expected to find them in the same order as entered.
has no idea why background is pink
(set workshops to be unpublished by default). is confused
Going to edit to see why.
thinks it may be because content is just updated
expected pink to be "new"
Thinks the pink should be temporary - like a notification.
no idea why it is pink
Worked out it's because it's unpublished.
not idea it was unpublished or anything else
suggested either preview or newly updated
"was not immediately apparent to me at all why it was pink, mostly suggested either a preview view or a 'hey I just updated your content' thing"
follow up task 6, link in footer
looked to see if he got a block for free with his category.
want categories in blocks
Used menu for workshops information link, but now custom block for workshops.
where did my content go?
Using admin/content/node to find content.
again uses dropdown for block placement
not using drag and drop again
using tabs to go back and forth between the "real site" and the "admin section"
task 6 followup: hide author + post date information for workshops
expected content types to be in content management
hoozah.. post information patch worked ;)
Looking for 'submitted by' information in content types.
Nice!!
only put 'admin' for exclude path
figured out quickly that he needs to use a wildcard
Missed wildcard but worked it out quickly.
TASK 8
looked to see if he had the option to change path automatically.. knew that he needed to install path.module
module page is "overwhelming"
uses whether or not a module has been updated recently
media and video important
Went to create content instead of admin/content/node
seemed a bit confused by the URL path settings edit form
No issues with vertical tabs, expects things to show up there.
comfortable with vertical tabs
but quickly got it right
confused by path field.. could be because there is no title to the field.. (#367356)
TASK 10
figured out "text formats" quickly. immediately went to add new text format
"How do I set where these tags come from?"
Knows what a filter is. Found 'text format quickly'
Looked at the help text for the new format - and expected to be able to edit the tags from there.
Then found configure later.
looking for a back button to go back for making changes in configuration
Set workshop format to default, after specifically allowing workshop presenters to use it.
TASK 11
doesn't realizehe needs to enable search.module
looking through site administration and site building.
really assumes that search is enabled by default
thinks search is default in configuration (not a separate module)
looking through blocks, hoping he can just enable search
wonders if there is a module called search
wants to configure module from module admin
wanna see only new modules on module page
knows to set perms for search
may be separated ^
disappointed that when clicking configure permissions for search via configure by module page, that it lists everything
expects "configure permissions" link to go to search specific permissions.
Went to permissions before settings.
Expects the "re-index" button to rebuild the search index.
Knows that cron isn't working.
thinks reindex site will index site for him
Didn't check the 0% after hitting re-index.
used lowercase history, found nothing
thinks search isn't working
again press that reindex site button to index site
Thinks reindex will schedule a cron job to reindex it.
Great cron explanation.
Went to cron via search settings screen.
saw that cron ran when site was installed and "maybe cron is working"
TASK 12
Didn't notice any changes.
nothing is "new and exciting" with this version of drupal compared to previous
compared to D5/6.
Not comfortable with Drupal APIs.
not loving it at all
